Ziebell a chance to play Cats: Kangaroos

AFL club North Melbourne say midfielder Jack Ziebell, who spent two nights in hospital with a bruised lung, could play on the weekend.

North Melbourne midfielder Jack Ziebell has been released from hospital, with the AFL club saying he could yet line up against Geelong on Sunday.

Ziebell was coughing up blood after a brutal collision with Ollie Wines in Saturday night's clash at Etihad Stadium.

The Kangaroos captain spent two nights at Epworth Hospital with a bruised lung.

North's director of football Geoff Walsh noted that it was precautionary move from the club, "to make sure there was no significant damage or long-lasting impacts from the collision".

Walsh suggested it was too early to be confident, but there remained a chance Ziebell could be fit enough to tackle the Cats this weekend.

"Jack's condition is improving each day and he came out of hospital this morning and is in very good spirits," Walsh said on the club website.

"We'll monitor him throughout the week before making a decision on whether he plays against Geelong.

"But with an eight-day break between games, we are hopeful he may be able to be a part of Sunday's game."
