Kevin Pietersen has been ruled out for the rest of the Indian Premier League season with a calf injury.

The 35-year-old former England star confirmed via social media on Sunday he would be sidelined until November due to a torn calf.

His announcement comes three days after he suffered a game-ending injury after taking a quick single for the Pune Supergiants against the Royal Challengers Bangalore.

"Over & out, India! Injuries are all part of the job! Horrible tear in my calf! Sad to be leaving a really great bunch of boys but looking forward to being back with my family! London bound for a summer off! Vacation till November! Bye for now! Lots of love, KP xxx," Pietersen said on his Instagram account.

Pietersen earlier this month refused to rule out a return to Test cricket with his native South Africa.

He left South Africa 16 years ago and scored 8181 runs at an average of 47.28 in 104 Tests for England after making his debut during the 2005 Ashes.

The brilliant right-handed batsman was sacked by England in 2014 following the Ashes whitewash in Australia, becoming a much-travelled Twenty20 specialist as a result.

Meanwhile, captain David Warner has scored 59 from 31 balls to help Sunrisers Hyderabad to a five-wicket victory over Kings XI Punjab.

Australia's Shaun Marsh was the pick of the batsmen for Kings XI Punjab, making 40 from 34 deliveries in his side's 6-143 before Hyderabad made 5-146 in reply.
