The coalition's primary vote has fallen to a near-record low of 34 per cent, the latest Newspoll shows.

Scott Morrison doubled his lead as preferred prime minister over the past two weeks with a four-point jump but the coalition's primary vote fell for a third poll in a row, according to the Newspoll published in The Australian on Sunday night.

The coalition trails Labor on a two-party-preferred split of 45 to 55 per cent for the second consecutive poll.
