The Intern Diaries: Growing Pains

Neither of the families in Dateline’s story on medically stunting growth in disabled children had ever spoken to the media before, but producer Phillipa Hutchison was very touched that they chose to tell her their stories.

In the latest of our Intern Diaries podcasts, she tells Stephanie Garnaut that both Janine Bolton and Suzi Paisley warmly welcomed her and video journalist Amos Roberts into their homes.

They feel they’ve done the best thing for their children by deciding to stunt their growth so that they can continue to care for them by themselves.

But Phillipa also went on a journey exploring the ethics surrounding the treatment to ensure that all the conflicting opinions about it were taken on board in the story.
