Having lived in Los Angeles for the past three years, filmmaker and producer Dean Cornish has witnessed the increasing divide between those living in rich estates and those living on the streets.

In his most recent Dateline film, Tiny Home Rebel, Dean meets a man called Elvis whose mission is to build tiny homes for those living on the streets in LA. He follows Elvis’ journey to build a roof over the heads of homeless people across the city.

“Almost 58,000 people are homeless which is up 23% from last time they checked which was last year…of that there’s about 15,000 in shelters,” Dean tells Dateline intern Kate Lambe, in this episode of The Intern Diaries.

“Christine, it was a bit like hanging out with your aunty.

“She invited me inside her tarpaulin...she had done everything she could to make this place a really homely place to be.”
