Far right sentiment has grown across Europe in reaction to migration and economic woes.

Dateline's Evan Williams recently reported on the far right Identitarian movement in Austria and its young leader, Martin Sellner - who hopes to influence major European elections this year.

In the latest 'Intern Diaries' podcast, Evan tells Dateline intern Tom Storey about his encounter with this new far right movement, saying he was surprised at how controlled and academic Sellner was in communicating his message.

“I’ve filmed with far right organisations and people in the past, and I think what’s interesting about Martin is this…difference,” he said.

“He’s a very well-educated, sophisticated, urbane young man. He understands image – which is what they’re all about if you look at their social media strategy.”

“He understands he’s got to be clearly outlining what it is they believe, and their language is very, very important. The words and phrases they’re using have been well thought through.”
