1989: As Ho Chi Minh City prepares to mark its 15th anniversary of liberation by opening its doors to the western world, Dateline’s Gordon Penny profiles the bustling city we used to know as Saigon.
1990: 15 years after the end of Vietnam War, the country remains exhausted by warfare, its economy is still in the crawling stage and its people are tired of hardship. Many have left the country to seek a new life elsewhere, but not all have been successful. Ron Hurrell reports for Dateline on the return to Vietnam of some of those Boat People.
2005: Australian veterans are returning to Vietnam 30 years after the war. For many of them, the decades since have failed to erase the trauma and guilt they feel over the death and destruction they caused. Dateline’s David Brill filmed much of the war himself and travelled back to Vietnam with them.
