Blake Ferguson has starred in his return to rugby league, scoring both of the Wyong Roos' tries in their 36-8 trial loss to Penrith in Wyong.
Ferguson crossed twice in the first half for the Sydney Roosters' NSW Cup side at Morry Breen Oval on the NSW Central Coast before being rested for the second half.
He opened the scoring for the Roos in the 24th minute when he carried four defenders over the line in what was his first game since August 2013.
Ferguson has been given clearance by the NRL to return to football after serving a ban following an indecent assault conviction and being axed by Canberra.
Playing in the centres, the former NSW State of Origin representative was one of the shining lights for the Roos along with Martin Kennedy, who returns to the Roosters following a year with Brisbane, and Matt McIlwrick.
After leading 16-8 at halftime - thanks to an Eddie Aiono double - the Panthers scored four tries to run away with the game in the second 40.
Nu'u Akeripa put his hand up for a spot in Penrith's final trial, scoring one try and setting up another.
