If you haven't been exercising it can be difficult to know where to start. Whether it's for weight loss or general fitness, taking that first step and knowing what to do can demotivate some people.

Salvina Fagone admits that she has zero motivation to exercise and has struggled with her weight most of her life.

"The point of where I have to get to, to achieve fitness and weight loss seems unattainable for me and it's been a lifelong battle," she tells Insight host Jenny Brockie.

The 58-year-old says she has had gym memberships in the past but often feels intimidated working out with others.

Heidi Clarke, an exercise physiologist, shows people how to incorporate exercise at home, and tells Insight there are simple movements people can do to get fit.

"So there's different activities that we can do and different styles of squats, push ups and different trunk stability exercises. So the sit to stand is a really simple way to start with your exercising," she says.

You can catch up on the full episode, How to Exercise below. Next week in part two of Insight’s exercise special we examine the role of exercise in treating chronic health conditions and ask, is exercise really medicine?  The Exercise Pill, Tuesday, July 3, 8:30pm on SBS and SBS On Demand.
