The moment a surprise studio discovery is made

When these two guests appeared on Insight to discuss their life changing injuries they weren't expecting to uncover just what they did.

Twenty years ago, Linda Buchan suffered serious injuries after a fire broke out in her house.

On that fateful night she died twice on the way to hospital, suffered third degree burns to her legs and had her toes on her right foot amputated. She also has a hypoxia brain injury which has affected her eyesight and co-ordination. Tragically she also lost her sister who died in the blaze.

She attended Insight's show, Rebuilding Your Life, to talk about her injuries and how she has dealt with them.

But it was during the filming of that show that Buchan realised she had a special connection to one of the other guests in attendance - Louise Ellery.

Ellery, a four time paralympian, was left with a severe brain injury after she was involved in a car accident 20 years ago. She's had to learn to walk, talk and eat again.

The pair soon realised that the 27th of June 1998 was the day that both of their worlds changed forever - much to the shock of them, and the rest of the audience.

"So, in different places, you were both having your lives changed completely," Insight host Jenny Brockie remarks.

"I looked at you [Linda] when you were saying that. I was just going, hang on!," Ellery says upon hearing Buchan mention the date she was injured.

"Crazy."
