That's a wrap
That's a wrap on today's live coverage of the Israel-Iran conflict. Here were some of the key moments as the day unfolded:

— Iran launched missiles at a United States airbase in Qatar, in retaliation for US strikes on its nuclear facilities two days earlier, prompting strong criticism from countries including Australia and Qatar itself.

— United States President Donald Trump announced a 'complete and total ceasefire' between Israel and Iran would come into effect on Tuesday afternoon.

— The hours that led up to the ceasefire coming into effect were tense, with neither Israel nor Iran offering full clarity around whether or not they had agreed to it.

— Shortly after Trump announced the ceasefire had begun, Israel announced it had agreed to it, with Iranian press reporting that Iran had also agreed.

— Both Israel and Iran accused the other of launching strikes beyond the agreed ceasefire time.

— Trump said both had violated the ceasefire, saying he was unhappy with both countries but particularly Israel, and warning Israel "don't drop those bombs".

Thanks for joining us.

Israel and Iran 'don't know what the f-ck they're doing', Trump says
Before leaving the White House for the NATO summit, Trump also had some colourful language for both Israel and Iran, following reports that both continued to launch strikes beyond the ceasefire start time.

"We basically have two countries that have been fighting so long and so hard that they don't know what the f-ck they're doing. You understand that?" Trump told reporters.
Trump also said he had to "get Israel to calm down now".

"Israel, as soon as we made the deal, they came out and they dropped a load of bombs, the likes of which I've never seen before, the biggest load that we've seen."

Trump says both Israel and Iran violated ceasefire agreement
Reuters is reporting that US President Donald Trump said both Israel and Iran violated the ceasefire agreement, and that while he was "not happy" with either country, he was particularly unhappy with Israel.

Speaking to reporters at the White House before leaving for the NATO summit in The Hague, Trump said Israel "unloaded" right after agreeing to the deal.

Qatari PM says Iran's strike on US base near Doha 'unacceptable'
Qatar's prime minister has said Iran's missile strike targeting a US base on Qatari soil on Tuesday was an "unacceptable act".

Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani told reporters it was particularly unacceptable given that Qatar "has been making great diplomatic efforts in order to have the situation de-escalated", Reuters said.

He also said that Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian expressed regret in a phone call with Qatar's Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani that Iran's target was a base near Doha.

AFP is also reporting that Qatar's prime minister persuaded Iran to agree to the US-proposed ceasefire with Israel in a phone call, according to a source with knowledge of the talks.

Iran denies launch of missiles 'in the last few hours'
Iran denied it launched missiles at Israel "in the last few hours", state media reported, according to AFP.

Iran says Israel continued striking it past ceasefire deadline
Iran says Israel continued launching strikes against it up until 9am local time — 3.30pm AEST — on Tuesday, state media has reported.

The comments were made by a spokesperson for Iran's Khatam al-Anbiya central military headquarters.

Iranian state TV had earlier said that a ceasefire would take place in Iran from 7.30am local time — 2pm AEST.

That is indeed when the ceasefire deadline announced by US President Donald Trump passed. Trump posted about an hour and a half later on his Truth Social platform, saying the ceasefire was now in effect and urging against violations.
Israel said Iran continued striking it in the hours after the ceasefire was first announced early this morning by Trump.

It also accused Iran of violating the ceasefire agreement after it was in place, with Israel's defence minister saying he had ordered the military to respond. Iran has denied breaking the agreement.

Iran's Supreme National Security Council, its top security body, earlier said its armed forces were prepared to "decisively respond" to any renewed attacks by Israel.

Iran: Attack on US base in Qatar had 'nothing to do with our friendly neighbour'
Iran has said its missile strike on the US-run Al-Udeid airbase in Qatar early this morning was an act of self-defence that had "nothing to do with our friendly neighbour Qatar".

"We enjoy excellent and deeply rooted relationships [with Qatar]," Iran's foreign ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei said in a post on X.

"Tehran remains fully committed to its good-neighbourliness policy with respect to the state of Qatar and other neighboring countries," he continued, adding that Iran would not let US and Israeli aggressions "create division between us and the brotherly countries of the region".
Qatar condemned Iran's missile strike on the airbase shortly after it occurred, calling it a "flagrant violation" of its sovereignty and international law.

Foreign Ministry spokesperson Majed bin Mohammed Al Ansari said Qatar's air defences intercepted the missiles and warned the country "reserves the right to respond directly" in line with international law.

He urged an end to military actions, warning further escalation could have "catastrophic consequences", and reaffirmed Qatar's support for diplomacy over conflict.

As tension in the Middle East continues, will your travel plans be affected?
With Iran-Israel tensions remaining high, many flights through the Middle East are being rerouted, rescheduled or even cancelled.

The usually busy airspace stretching from Iran and Iraq to the Mediterranean has been largely empty of commercial air traffic since Israel started strikes on Iran on 13 June.

International carriers have cancelled or rerouted to aviation hubs like Dubai and Doha, some of the busiest airports in the world.

SBS News spoke to experts about how your travel plans could be affected.

Israeli defence minister orders strikes on Tehran after accusing Iran of violating ceasefire
Israeli defence minister Israel Katz has accused Iran of violating the ceasefire, after Israel's military said it had detected missile launches from Iran and was working to intercept them.

The announcement came around three hours after US President Donald Trump declared that the ceasefire had come into effect, and around two hours after Israel released a statement saying it had agreed to it.

Katz said he had ordered the country's military to "respond forcefully", instructing them to carry out "intense strikes" against targets in Tehran.

Bezalel Smotrich, Israel's far-right finance minister, shared a brief message in Hebrew on X, saying: "Tehran will tremble."

What is the timeline of the ceasefire?
According to Donald Trump, the ceasefire will end the 12-day conflict in stages over a 24-hour period.

In his post announcing the ceasefire at around 8am AEST, the US president said it would begin to take effect "in approximately six hours from now".

He said Iran would start the ceasefire, with Israel to join 12 hours later. At the 24-hour mark, he said an "official END to THE 12 DAY WAR will be saluted by the world".

Shortly after the announcement, Iran's foreign minister Abbas Araghchi said that if Israel stopped its "illegal aggression" against the Iranian people no later than 4am Tehran time (10.30am AEST) on Tuesday, Iran had no intention of continuing its response afterwards.

There have been no reported Israeli attacks on Iran since that time.

A senior White House official said Trump had brokered the deal in a call with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, and Israel had agreed so long as Iran did not launch further attacks.

Iranian media claims ceasefire begins as people bunker down in Israel
SBS Chief International Correspondent Ben Lewis has been in and out of bomb shelters in Tel Aviv.

"It's not unusual for parties to a ceasefire in this part of the world to strike right up until the deadline," he says.

"In the bomb shelter I'm sitting in, people are hoping these are simply the last salvos before peace. But one of Iran's missiles hit an apartment building in Beersheba, killing at least three people. It will be difficult to see how Israel leaves that unanswered."
