Mitch Creek eyes NBA, possible NBL return

Mitch Creek has been impressive for the Long Island Nets in the NBA's G League averaging 13 points, eight rebounds and three assists.

Mitch Creek says six NBA teams are showing interest in signing him after his strong performances in the G League but he has not ruled out returning to Australia to play for the South East Melbourne Phoenix or other NBL suitors.

The one team he will not play for is the Adelaide 36ers.

Creek says he has too many "bad memories" from his rocky departure from Adelaide after eight years with the team.

"That's done," Creek told AAP on Wednesday.

"I stay in touch with the boys, the coaches, the staff, but there are probably half a dozen people there that ruined me ever going back there."

The bad blood between the guard/forward and the 36ers, a club he made his debut with as an 18-year-old, emerged this year when he signalled his plan to move to the US and play in the NBA.

Creek trained and played for the Brooklyn Nets in the NBA pre-season but was cut before the regular season began.

He remained in New York, joined the Nets' second-tier G League team the Long Island Nets and has been impressive sinking game-clinching baskets and averaging 13 points, eight rebounds and three assists.

The 26-year-old from Horsham, Victoria, said his representatives at Mogul Sports Group have been fielding calls from interested NBA teams.

Creek is not contracted to the Nets so could join any NBA franchise.

"I've had half a dozen teams express an interest in me through our team at Mogul," Creek said.

The likely route from the G League will be an NBA team signing Creek to an initial 10-day contract, which NBA teams can pursue in January and could extend to a longer deal.

If Creek can't secure an NBA contract he says he would contemplate returning to Europe, where he played earlier this year, or the NBL.

He would also contemplate returning to the US next year for the NBA Summer League and G League.

Creek knows he is a hot commodity with NBL teams because when he announced he would never play for the 36ers again he was inundated with offers from NBL teams.

"My phone's battery went flat with the amount of messages I received about it," he said.

Creek is interested in playing for the NBL's new team, the South East Melbourne Phoenix, headed by his "great friend" Tommy Greer.

"I'll never shy away from the opportunity of listening and hearing things out and the fact there's a new South Melbourne team is very exciting," he said.
