- Antisemitism interim report calls for tighter security, gun laws
- Trump administration under fire for rising costs due to war with Iran
- Arsenal and Atletico Madrid draw 1-1 in Champions League semi-final first leg
The interim report into the Royal Commission on Antisemitism and Social Cohesion has been handed to governor-general Sam Mostyn.
The Royal Commission was opened after fifteen people were killed in a shooting at the Chanukkah by the Sea event at Bondi Beach in December 2025.
The report, released just two months after the Royal Commission commenced, contains 14 recommendations which include more security at Jewish events, a review of Australia's intelligence systems, and nationally consistent gun laws
It also recommends the government consider appointing a full time Commonwealth Counter-Terrorism Coordinator.
.
Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has welcomed the interim report.
After a meeting with the National Security Committee this morning, Mr Albanese has confirmed the government will adopt all of the recommendations relevant to the Commonwealth.
On recommendations for nationally consistent gun reforms, Mr Albanese says his government will work with states and territories on their implementation.
"It will be up to state and territories, of course, we'll have to give consideration to the very clear recommendations. There are two of the recommendations make it clear that we should progress with nationally consistent gun reform. I certainly hope that that occurs and would continue to engage constructively with state and territory governments to say that this is reform, which is necessary."

Members of the Jewish community have gathered in North London after two Jewish men were stabbed in what police are treating as a terrorist incident.
The two victims, one in his 70s and one in his 30s, are both in a stable condition in hospital, while police have arrested a 45-year-old man over the incident.
According to the Community Security Trust charity, the number of antisemitic attacks across the UK has risen to 3,700 incidents in 2025, up from 1,662 in 2022.
Jewish community members, like Rose, are keen to see urgent action to address the increase.
"All of us here, we're all terrified. This is happening so often now. People going around there about their normal lives, and this horror happens. It's happening to Jews all over the place, and we're terrified. It's awful. So we're here to stand together and say this can not carry on, somebody's got to do something about it. We're all frightened now, and we shouldn't be afraid in our own country. It's our country. We're Jewish people in our country, and we're terrified."

President Donald Trump has been accused of failing to live up to campaign promises to lower the cost of living, with Iran's blockade of the Strait of Hormuz contributing to rising costs.
The accusation has come during Secretary of Defence Pete Hegseth's first time in front of a congressional hearing since the war began.
California Democrat Ro Khanna says the war has driven up the cost of gas and food.
RO KHANNA: “Do you know how much it will cost Americans in terms of their increased cost in gas and food over the next year because of the Iran war?”
HEGSETH: “I would simply ask you what the cost is of an Iranian nuclear bomb."
KHANNA: "I'm going to give you that."
HEGSETH: "I would simply ask you what the– you're playing gotcha questions about domestic things. I'm not–"
KHANNA: “You're asking– you're saying it's a gotcha question to ask what it's going to be in terms of the increase."
HEGSETH: "Why won't you answer what it cost to prevent Iran from getting a nuclear bomb?"
HEGSETH: "What would it cost? What would you pay to ensure Iran doesn't get a nuclear bomb? Do you? What would you pay?"
