Australia's competition regulator says the Federal Court's ruling on Coles supermarket's "Down Down" price campaign is a warning for all retailers to ensure they are making accurate pricing and discount claims. ACCC Chair and Commissioner Gina Cass-Gottlieb says other retailers can learn from the outcome.

"It is very timely for all retailers, especially as we lead up to end of year financial sales, that they make accurate discount and pricing claims. The ACCC will continue to take action wherever needed to protect consumers from misleading or deceptive conduct."

UK leader Keir Starmer is standing firm in his position, despite ever-increasing pressure to quit.

Health Secretary Wes Streeting is reportedly considering a leadership challenge and speculation is growing that he could oust Starmer.

Opposition leader Kemi Badenoch says Starmer has lost control of his government.

"This is a highly unusual moment. The Prime Minister is in office and not in power. Everyone is trying to pretend it is alright. It is not alright. "

A prominent Brisbane obesity surgeon accused of rape has briefly faced court on the Gold Coast.

Police allege Doctor Reza Adib raped a woman three times and sexually assaulted her once at his Burleigh Heads apartment on March 30.

He’s also charged with two counts of deprivation of liberty.

The 65-year-old is the partner of former Queensland premier Annastacia Palaszczuk.

There is no suggestion of wrongdoing or involvement by Ms Palaszczuk.

Dr Adib remains on bail and defence lawyers have indicated he will fight the charges.

Spain is pushing ahead with new rules to make social media sites and artificial intelligence safer.

Spain's Digital Transformation Minister, Oscar Lopez, says the profits of a small number of tech companies can not come at the expense of the rights of millions of people.

Mr Lopez says children and especially girls are being subjected to cyberbullying, sexual harassment and AI-generated sexual deepfakes.

"I've seen how voices amongst several Minister Cabinets in the European Union have been rising to establish a minimum age to access social media in Europe. This is important because it is evident that any rule we approve is easier to enforce and makes more sense if it is made for a market of 400 million citizens, such as the European Union, instead of one country."

Supporters of the Iranian national soccer team have gathered to send-off players ahead of the World Cup.

The team is scheduled to head to Turkey next week for a training camp before flying to the United States for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Iran's participation in the tournament had been in doubt, after the U-S and Israel launched attacks on Iran and the Trump administration imposed a travel ban on its citizens.
