In this bulletin;

  • The Reserve Bank keeps rates on hold at 4.35 per cent;
  • US Presidential candidates Donald Trump and Kamala Harris spend the final day of campaigning in key battle ground states;
  • And in sport, Knights Choice wins the Melbourne Cup in a photo finish.

The Reserve Bank has kept rates on hold at 4.35 per cent, marking 12 months of rates remaining unchanged.

The interest rate is currently at its highest level since November 2011.

In a statement, the RBA says while there are positive signs inflation is slowing, underlying inflation remains too high.

The Board says it's seeking to sustainably return inflation to the target range, but the outlook remains unclear.

US Presidential candidates Donald Trump and Kamala Harris are making their final pitches on the final day of campaigning as polls suggest the vote will be close.

Republican nominee Trump is attending four rallies in three states, including two in Pennsylvania, where he told voters not to settle for "weakness, incompetence, decline and decay".

Vice President Kamala Harris is also spending her last day campaigning in Pennsylvania, where 19 of the 270 Electoral College votes are up for grabs.

The Democratic nominee has visited working-class areas including Allentown ahead of a late-night Philadelphia rally that includes pop-star Lady Gaga and talk show host Oprah Winfrey.

Speaking to supporters in Allentown, Ms Harris has promised a better future for Americans.

"Our campaign has tapped into the ambitions and the aspirations and the dreams of the American people. We are optimistic and excited about what we will do together and we here know, it is time for a new generation of leadership in America."

Deputy Prime Minister Richard Marles is not concerned about Prime Minister Anthony Albanese's ability to work with Donald Trump if he wins the US election.

It comes as a video of Mr Albanese has resurfaced from 2017, where he seemingly criticises Mr Trump.

"Well, you've got to deal with who was elected. So we have an alliance with the US. We've got to deal with him. But that doesn't mean that you're uncritical about it. He scares the *shit* out of me, and I think it's of some concern that the leader of the free world thinks that you can conduct politics through 140 characters on Twitter."

Mr Albanese was Shadow Transport Minister at the time, and made the comments on a panel at the Splendour in the Grass music festival.

Mr Marles says he's not concerned, insisting Mr Albanese will forge a strong relationship with whoever wins the US election.

"The Prime Minister has demonstrated in all the work that he has done around the world in repairing a stranger standing in the world, in stabilising relationships, in building others that he is capable of working with anyone."

A deputy coroner has issued a stern warning to the public after missing toddler William Tyrrell's foster mother was verbally abused outside an inquest into his disappearance.

New South Wales deputy coroner Harriet Grahame says she's disappointed and disturbed after the woman was named and abused outside Lidcombe Coroners Court yesterday afternoon - despite strict legal orders preventing her identification.

Counsel assisting Gerald Craddock SC has warned it could amount to punishable contempt of court.

William went missing while playing on the verandah at his foster grandmother's home in Kendall, on the NSW mid-north coast in 2014.

The inquest is focusing on a 2021 police search and a theory that William died in an accident on the property and his foster mother disposed of his body.

To horse racing,

Knight's Choice has won the Melbourne Cup in a photo finish from Warp Speed.

Ridden by Irish expat jockey Robbie Dolan, Knight's Choice surged past his rivals and hung on in a thrilling finish for trainers John Symons and Sheila Laxon.

Noboru Takagi's Warp Speed was second by a nose, with in-form jockey Jamie Kah third on Okita Soushi.

It was Dolan's first win in the race that stops a nation - which he's told Channel Nine is a dream to have won.

"I can't even put it into words, this is the biggest race in the world and to win it, it's just incredible. I've got my family here, my partner, Justine, our little baby, Maisy, my dad flew over from Ireland and now you've got me in tears!"
