  • And in football, Liverpool tops the table in the European Champions League.

The results of the US presidential election are continuing to filter in, as Americans decide whether Democrat candidate Kamala Harris or Republican Donald Trump will be their next president.

Polling has now closed across the country [[as of 4pm]] and Mr Trump is in the lead - although analysis predicts a tight result.

Early results have given several expected states to both Mr Trump and Ms Harris.

The first of the seven key swing states has also been called, with Donald Trump projected to win North Carolina.

All eyes remain on the six other key battleground states [[Arizona, Nevada, Georgia, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Michigan and Wisconsin]] where counting is ongoing.

Mr Trump has so far won 230 Electoral College votes and Ms Harris 205.

Candidates need a total of 270 to win.

Counting will continue throughout the night and likely into subsequent days.

US voters say there's a tense atmosphere around many polling stations as key states are targeted by hoax bomb threats.

The threats, reportedly from Russian email domains, have targeted polling sites in four key US states.

According to the FBI, none of the threats have been deemed credible.

Polling sites in Georgia, Michigan, Arizona, and Wisconsin were affected.

James Fetterman, who is in Wisconsin, says the overall mood is uneasy.

"Every election seems to be getting exponentially more intense. And yeah, it's not good. It's becoming a source of a lot of divisions, not just between family, but friends and it's I think this is starting to tear people apart from each other."

Two locations in Fulton County, Georgia, briefly evacuated, reopened after 30 minutes, and the county is now seeking a court order to extend voting hours beyond the 7 pm deadline.

The Russian embassy called the accusations "malicious slander."

People released from immigration detention can not be forced to wear electronic monitoring ankle bracelets or follow curfews, Australia's High Court has ruled.

Almost 150 people released as part of the NZYQ cohort were fitted with electronic monitoring bracelets, and 126 subject to a curfew, after the federal government passed emergency legislation to impose restrictions on the cohort.

The measures stemmed from a High Court decision last year that ruled indefinite immigration detention was illegal. Most of the 215 detainees released had criminal records.

The High Court ruling found the legislation overreached the separation of powers between the courts and the Commonwealth government.

Opposition minister Dan Tehan has criticised the government for failing to have an alternative plan.

"The government gave us assurances that they set the regime up so it was constitutional so now they need to make sure that they use it, otherwise, they need to come out today to say we all rushed back to put through a bill into this parliament that was unconstitutional and if they've done that, this is just another disaster when it comes to dealing with this issue."

In football, Liverpool's scintillating start to the season has continued, with the Reds now sitting on top of table in the European Champions League.

Arne Slot's side have thrashed German side Bayer Leverkusen 4-nil in the Champions League.

Slot says he's very proud of his team.

"You take it one game each but I couldn't imagine we won so many games and did so well not only in terms of winning but also the performance."

Elsewhere in the Champions League, Manchester City slumped to a third straight defeat, beaten four goals to one by Sporting Lisbon.

While, defending champions Real Madrid were beaten at home by A-C Milan.
