  • Showers easing in a rain-soaked New South Wales - but the flood risk remains;
  • The winners of this year's Archibald Prize unveiled in Sydney;
  • Three men convicted over separate Nazi salutes at a Sydney football game in 2022.
Rain is predicted to ease around Sydney from this afternoon, after parts of New South Wales copped a drenching.

But a severe weather warning remains in place for the south coast, with as much as 100 millimetres predicted to fall in six hours in some areas.

The Bureau of Meteorology says the risk of flooding will remain even as the downpours ease, and that some residents in flood prone areas should be preparing to evacuate if necessary.

New South Wales Premier Chris Minns has urged residents to never drive through floodwaters.

"You can risk your own life, a passenger in your car or a rescue worker from the SES New South Wales Police or Fire and Rescues who has been sent in to save your life. So if in doubt, don't cross."

A new report has confirmed young women are often the targets of sexual harassment in the retail industry.

The University of Sydney report says incidents are occurring on a daily basis.

62 percent of respondents to the survey have said they constantly receive suggestive comments or have jokes made about their appearance.

Another 45 per cent have said they are questioned about their personal life.

Elderly Australians in need of home care support are facing wait times of up to nine months to receive packages.

The number of people in limbo has more than doubled over the past twelve months, with just over 68,000 [[68,109]] people now on the waiting list.

The federal government's home care package provides support for Australians with showering, cleaning, cooking and other basic needs - with those receiving the assistance generally seeking to delay or avoid moving into full-time residential care.

But Russell Herald from the Department of Health and Aged Care says those already receiving support are also waiting for extra help as their circumstances change, which could worsen demand.

The Australian National University says it's referred several students to police since the start of the war between Hamas and Israel in October.

ANU vice-chancellor Genevieve Bell has told Senate Estimates disciplinary action has been taken against ten students following pro-Palestine demonstrations on campus.

She says four have been referred to the Australian Federal Police.

Ms Bell says the university remains committed to allowing students to express their views in a respectful and appropriate way.

"Our commitment to the classic ideal of the university, academic rigour, free inquiry, and free expression, and the right to protest is not without its challenges. Our campus is one of several in Australia and many more across the world that have seen protest activity in recent times reflecting on the conflict in the Middle East. Throughout this period and EU has acknowledged the rights enshrined in the university's policies on academic freedom and freedom of speech."

Greek authorities are continuing to search for former BBC show host Michael Mosley who has gone missing after visiting a local beach on the island of Symi.

Six firefighters, a vehicle and a drone team have been sent from the nearby island of Rhodes to help in the search.

The mayor of Symi, Eleftherios Papadoloukas, says the 67-year-old was last seen walking back to his local residence from one of the island's isolated beaches.

"He went to the beach in Agios Nikolaos for a swim. Rather than taking the small boat to get back, he opted to return by foot and walk the distance which is about 10-15 minutes from Agios Nikolas to Pedi. But from Pedi to get down to Gyalos, it's about another half hour. He came back from Agios Nikolaos, some people saw him, but from there he got lost. His fate is unknown."

Israel's Gay Pride event has gone ahead this year, despite the official annual celebration being called off because of the war with Hamas.

Organisers have said it's not the time to celebrate.

They say this year's event is more about demonstrating and raising awareness.

One of the attendees, Rinat Zuckerman, says members of the LGBTQIA+ community wanted to show their support for the families of the hostages still held by Hamas in Gaza.

Artist Laura Jones has won this year's Archibald Prize with her portrait of author Tim Winton.

The $100,000 award was decided by the judges unanimously from a thousand entries and 57 finalists.

The $40,000 Sulman Prize has been taken out by Naomi Kantjuriny, while the other major award - the $50,000 Wynne Prize for landscape painting - has been won by Djakaŋu Yunupiŋu, for the work Nyalala gurmilili.

President of the Art Gallery's Board of Trustees, David Gonski, says this year's Wynne Award has been particularly groundbreaking.

"This year we received a total of 738 entries and we chose 41 finalists. It is interesting to note that this year 21 works by Aboriginal artists have been selected as finalists, which makes it the first time in the history of the Wynne Prize that there have been more works hung by Aboriginal artists than non-Aboriginal artists."

Three men have been convicted of separately making a Hitler salute during the 2022 Australia Cup final between Sydney United and Macarthur F-C.
