Victorian Premier Jacinta Allan says she will push Prime Minister Anthony Albanese for a fair share of funding for flood affected communities after he unveiled additional support for Queensland’s storm and cyclone recovery.
The Prime Minister has confirmed he will fly directly from far north Queensland to central Victoria on Wednesday afternoon [[Jan 10]] to visit towns affected by major flooding.
Ms Allan says emergency services are working to provide targeted support as some communities hit by floods are still recovering from the 2022 flood event.
"We will push the federal government for a fair share of funding for affected communities and indeed for issues that affect Victoria. We will always be very strong advocates to the federal government on those matters as the community is being faced with an emergency situation, the community the volunteers all pull together to provide that emergency response in a time of emergency which can mean at time of great personal risks."

The Australian Federal Police are appealing for global public assistance to find one of Australia's most wanted men.
James Dalamangas is wanted over the fatal stabbing of Sydney man George Giannopoulous at a nightclub in Belmore in 1999, before it’s alleged he fled to Greece.
The next day, a warrant was issued for Mr Dalamangas’s arrest, but he has never been located and it’s believed he's still living in Greece.
Detective Superintendant Grant Taylor says they're hoping a large financial reward will encourage anyone with information to come forward.

"Time is now of the essence. We believe that someone in Greece would know where Dalamangas is living or working. We wish those people who may know that information to come forward and tell the authorities we also wish to remind the people in Greece that there is a $200,000 reward for any information to identify where dal omegas may be and assist us with his arrest. That money is also available for anyone internationally as well as in Australia."

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has defended the federal government's efforts in housing - saying it's doing all it can to improve rental conditions.
It comes after data released today [[Jan 9]] suggests the average rental has increased in cost by 11.5 per cent compared to last year.
The PropTrack Market Insight report has found rental prices increased 1.8 per cent over the December quarter to a national average of $580 per week.
Mr Albanese says it's not a quick fix.
"There's no easy solution. You need to build supply. And that's why we're investing in public housing, again, opposed by the coalition. That's why we have the incentive that's there for private build to rent. That was included in our budget of last May. And that's why we'll continue to work with the private sector as well."

The federal government is being urged to provide more military aid to Ukraine to help defend against intensified Russian missile and drone attacks.
It comes as Ukrainian authorities say Russia has sent dozens of missiles across Ukraine, killing at least four civilians.
The Australian Federation of Ukrainian Organisations have also written to Defence Minister Richard Marles in an effort to encourage the government to step up its support.

As workplaces try to tempt or force employees back into the office in the new year, experts warn flexible working arrangements are here to stay.
Many organisations are offering monetary bonuses or enforcing penalties to increase days worked in the office, after widespread working from home during the Covid-19 pandemic.
But Senior Lecturer of Business Administration at RMIT University, Melissa Wheeler, says flexible working arrangments have allowed many more people to participate in the workforce.
She says the trend is here to stay in 2024, and employers who don't adapt will see their workers go elsewhere.
"Flexible work arrangements can mean so many things, probably the most common thing that people think about is remote working or working from home, but it can also be things like flexi-time, compressed schedules, job-sharing, and many more options. Flexible work in my opinion is only limited by the creativity that we are willing to accept what it could look like."

After months of speculation, Tiger Woods has announced he has parted ways with sportswear giant Nike.
Woods has been signed to the company as a brand ambassador since 1996 - in what was the start of one of the most lucrative endorcement deals in sports history.
The 15-time major champion's most recent deal with Nike was a 10-year pact which was reportedly worth almost $300 million.
