Australia's Red Cross has led the signing of a declaration to protect humanitarian aid workers.

More than 100 countries signed the declaration this week during the United Nations General Assembly in New York.

Australian Red Cross CEO Andrew Colvin spoke to reporter Alexandra Jones about why the Declaration on the Protection of Humanitarian Personnel is critical to ensuring the protection of aid workers.
