World leaders are attending the 80th United Nations General Assembly at a time of intensifying global conflict and amid the colliding impacts of climate change and biodiversity loss.

The challenges have tested the United Nation's multilateral system.

Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong has held a number of meetings on the sidelines of the event, including with her Iranian counterpart, after Iran's ambassador in Australia was expelled over evidence it directed antisemitic attacks on Australian soil.
