Colombia is reeling from two attacks on its police and military, in what's been described as the country's bloodiest day in months.

At least 18 people including civilians were killed in the two attacks in Colombia on Thursday local time (21 August).

Colombia’s President has blamed a dissident group of Colombia’s Revolutionary Armed Forces.

For more on this group and why violence in Colombia appears to be on the rise, reporter Tys Occhiuzzi spoke to Elizabeth Dickinson, a senior analyst with the International Crisis Group based in the capital Bogota.
