Tensions between Israel and Iran are escalating further, with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu vowing to launch strikes that he says even Iran cannot imagine.

The warning comes after Iran fired waves of missiles in retaliation for Israeli attacks on its nuclear and military facilities.

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has threatened an even harsher response if Israel's attacks continue.

Mr Netanyahu says Israel's strikes are about destroying what he calls an existential threat from Iran's nuclear capabilities.

He says Israel intends to fight Iran as long as necessary.

"We paved the way to Tehran and our pilots over the skies of Tehran will deal blows to the Ayatollah regime that they cannot even imagine. And I can tell you this, we have indications that senior leaders in Iran are already packing their bags. They sense what's coming."

At least 80 people have been killed in Iran and four in Israel in the last three days.

Investigators in the United States say they are searching for 57-year-old Vance Boelter in connection to two shootings that killed one Minnesota state politician and her husband and wounded two others.

Minnesota Governor Tim Walz says Melissa Hortman and her husband, Mark, were shot and killed in what appears to be a politically-motivated assassination.

He says it is an unspeakable act of political violence that has resulted in a great loss.

"My good friend and colleague, Speaker Melissa Hortman, and her husband, Mark, were shot and killed early this morning in what appears to be a politically motivated assassination. Our state lost a great leader, and I lost a dearest of friends. Speaker Hortman was someone who served the people of Minnesota with grace, compassion, humour, and a sense of service. She woke up every day determined to make this state a better place. She is irreplaceable, and will been missed by so many.

The same gunman is also believed to have shot state senator John Hoffman and his wife, who survived and are recovering after surgery.

A large-scale manhunt is underway.

Police say the suspect fled on foot, leaving behind a vehicle containing a manifesto listing other public officials as potential targets.

Teams are still scouring the site of the deadly Air India crash for the second black box.

The first flight data recorder has been recovered as investigations continue into the cause of the worst aviation disaster in a decade.

At least 265 people have died - and the final death toll could rise even further after DNA testing is complete.

Investigators say they will focus on looking into the operation of the plane's engine thrust, wing flaps and landing gear.

Meanwhile, the Gujarati community in the UK is still processing the shocking tragedy.

Bhoomi Chauhan, a student who missed the plane due to traffic, says she felt "totally numb" when hearing about the crash.

"When I came to know about the crash, we had almost left the airport and we were in the car when we saw the news about the plane crash."

In cricket, South Africa have upset Australia by five wickets at Lord's to become World Test champions.

Going to stumps on Friday night in pole position at 2-213, the South Africa team required just 69 runs to create history.

It is their first major International Cricket Council trophy.

Australian Captain Pat Cummins says it is disappointing, but the team is looking forward to the first of three Tests against the West Indies beginning in Barbados in 11 days' time.

"Do we feel like now is the right time to change? Or do you hold with the team that got us to the final? We have a couple of weeks before the first Test in the windies. And so I think we will sit down and have a bit of think, and after we digest the game. But I think for me, a new WTC cycle in some ways does feel like a bit of a reset."
