The federal government is introducing a two-year ban on foreign investors purchasing existing homes in Australia.
The ban will take effect from the 1st of April 2025 and run until the 31st of March 2027.
There will be a review to determine if it should be extended.
Housing Minister Clare O'Neil says it is the right action to take.
"Australians are facing real housing pressures right now, and it's so important that the entire Australian government be focused on making sure that we've got affordable options for Australians, and most of all, making sure that we've got young people getting the opportunity to get into home ownership. Now this is one piece of Labor's broader, bold and ambitious housing agenda, where in the midst of a housing crisis, because for 30 years, governments around the country haven't done enough to make sure that we're building enough affordable housing for the Australians who need it."

At least 15 people have died and another 15 are injured after a stampede at New Delhi’s main railway station.
Local media reports the incident occured as crowds gathered on two platforms to board trains to Prayagraj for the Hindu Maha Kumbh festival.
The victims included 10 women and three children.
Deputy Commissioner of Police, KPS Malhotra explains what happened.
"Two trains were delayed and an increase in footfall of passengers led to a situation wherein a lot of people gathered in a small space. Some people got injured in that."
Video footage on social media shows chaotic scenes as passengers were crushed while police and emergency teams struggled to control the crowd.

In the coming days he will undergo another series of tests and we will complete the medical investigation. We are prepared to accompany him and his family members both during and after hospitalisation for any needs that may arise."
