Ukraine says it had no involvement in an attack on a concert hall near Moscow that's killed at least 40 people and injured more than 100.

Five men in camouflage and armed with automatic weapons shot concertgoers at the Crocus City Hall.

Ukrainian presidential adviser Mykhailo Podolyak says his country had no involvement.

"Let us be on record: Ukraine absolutely definitely has nothing to do with these events. In reality we are engaged in a full-fledged, full-scale, intensive war with the Russian army and the Russian Federation as a country, and above all, everything will be decided only on the battlefield. It is now important for Ukraine to carry out effective military operations, offensive actions in order to defeat the Russian army. Moreover, Ukraine has never used terrorist methods, terrorism as a method of war, unlike the Russian Federation."

IS has claimed responsibility.

Catherine, the Princess of Wales, says she has cancer and is in the early stages of chemotherapy.

She has spoken about her diagnosis in a video message after weeks of speculation about her whereabouts since her time in hospital in January where she had major abdominal surgery.

The Princess of Wales says doctors initially thought her condition was not cancerous but tests after the surgery detected cancer.

She says she was advised to start a course of preventative chemotherapy.

"This, of course, came as a huge shock, and William and I have been doing everything we can to process and manage this privately for the sake of our young family. As you can imagine, this has taken time. It has taken me time to recover from major surgery in order to start my treatment. But most importantly, it has taken us time to explain everything to George, Charlotte and Louis in a way that's appropriate for them and to reassure them that I'm going to be okay."

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese says Australians are "sending support and strength" to the Princess of Wales.

Mr Albanese says the Princess has showed "extraordinary courage" with her public statement, in which she expresses her concern for others.

An election is being held more than a year early after the Liberals were unable to resolve a minority government stand-off with two cross bench independents.

Opinion polls point to a hung parliament, with the Liberals getting more seats than Labor but not the 18 required for majority.

More than 1500 properties are up for sale in Melbourne on the busiest Saturday for auctions in three years.

Domain's Nicola Powell has told Nine Radio says the clearance rate is likely to be 60 per cent or more with steady prices.

"A clearance rate of 60 per cent or above. It does indicate that prices are going to increase and we've got them around that 60 per cent mark. In the early 60s and that has been fairly consistent over a number of weeks now."

Geelong coach Chris Scott is calling for tough penalties for people who disrupt sporting matches.

Two Adelaide players grabbed a man who ran onto the Adelaide Oval during the third quarter of last night's game between Adelaide and Geelong

He faces a three year ban and a fine of up to $5,000.

Geelong coach Chris Scott says tougher penalties might be needed.

"I go way back, I will show my age like Terry Alderman needed a shoulder reconstruction because of one of these idiots, You know, what if? it's just, I don't know, I shouldn't be talking about it."

Geelong won the match by 19 points booting 14.12.96 to 11.11.77
