An investigation is underway after several key political office buildings were vandalised in the early hours of this morning.
Victoria Police say red paint was thrown over several MPs offices, including that of federal Attorney General Mark Dreyfus.
The building that houses the United States Consulate General in Melbourne has also been covered in red paint, with several windows in the foyer smashed.

There have been mixed reactions to the conviction of Donald Trump in his New York hush money criminal trial.
Republican leaders such as House Speaker Mike Johnson and Texas Governor Greg Abbott have criticised the verdict on social media as being politically motivated, and an example of the judicial system being used to influence US elections.
But Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg says the guilty verdict demonstrates the fundamental principle that no-one is above the law.
"While this defendant may be unlike any other in American history, we arrived at this trial and ultimately today at this verdict in the same manner as every other case that comes to the courtroom doors, by following the facts and the law and doing so without fear or favour."
It remains unclear what the conviction could mean for Trump's presumptive nomination for the Republican party, or his ability to vote.
Sentencing will be held in July, just days before the party holds its nominating convention.

Senior politicians say Australia will remain a close ally to the United States regardless of its leader, following Donald Trump's conviction.
But leaders have been generally reluctant to comment on the outcome of the trial.
Cabinet minister Bill Shorten has said it's "not sensible" for the government to comment on a court case in another jurisdiction.
Deputy Liberal Leader Sussan Ley and Labor Minister Jason Clare have both taken a similar line in their appearance on Channel 7.
LEY: "We're not going to comment on the matter given this is a domestic political development in the US. But the relationship we have with the US is more important and bigger than any one individual, any one leader or any one government."
CLARE: "We haven't seen anything like this before. Obviously, we need to now wait and see what the sentence is that the judge will hand down. But I'm reticent to comment on court proceedings in another country or to say anything about the domestic politics of the United States."

Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico has been released from hospital, weeks after being shot in an assassination attempt.
He's been taken to his apartment in Bratislava to complete his recovery.
An attacker hit Fico with four bullets at short range as the leader greeted supporters at a government meeting in the central Slovak town of Handlova on May 15.

Anthony Albanese says Australia's relationship with New Zealand remains strong, despite the country's prime minister expressing "grave concerns" over changes to a controversial immigration direction.
Immigration Minister Andrew Giles has announced a ministerial advice, known as direction 99, would be updated after several tribunal decisions allowed foreign nationals found guilty of serious crimes to avoid having their visa cancelled.
The directive had been created amid concerns from New Zealand's government of mass deportations of Kiwi citizens who had closer ties to Australia.
Christopher Luxon says he expressed grave concerns to Anthony Albanese over the changes - but Australia's Prime Minister says that doesn't mean relations have been damaged.
"I know Prime Minister Luxon for a long period of time, because he was a former CEO of Air New Zealand. So we have a good relationship. We had a good chat yesterday. Australia makes our decisions in our national interests."

One of the world's largest underground freshwater reservoirs will be protected from carbon capture projects under proposed laws by the Queensland government.
The Great Artesian Basin intersects four Australian states and territories, with about 70 per cent of its area sitting beneath Queensland.
It holds an estimated 65 million gigalitres of water and is a source for 180,000 inland people.

An intense search is underway for a man who has gone missing on an outback trail in the Northern Territory.
Police say 64 year old Alistair Thomson left Alice Springs to hike the Larapinta Trail along the West McDonnell Ranges ten days ago.
Mr Thomson is reportedly an experienced hiker and authorities believe he left with "adequate" food and water.
But he hasn't been heard from since the 21st of May when he sent a text update on his trip.

Thanasi Kokkinakis has pulled off another stirring comeback to join Alex De Minaur in the third round of the French Open.
De Minaur made the last 32 after a solid win against Jaume Munar, while Kokkinakis stole the Aussie show by coming from two sets down to beat Italian qualifier Giulio Zeppieri.
