British TV presenter Dr Michael Mosley has been found dead in a rocky area of the Greek island of Symi, five days after he disappeared during a walk.

Local police and officials have confirmed the body of the 67-year-old Dr Mosley was recovered from the Agia Marina beach on the island on Sunday.

A statement from Dr Mosley's wife, Dr Claire Bailey, says he had taken the wrong route on a hike and collapsed just short of reaching a marina where his body couldn’t easily be seen.

She paid tribute to her husband, a TV presenter and columnist who helped popularised intermittent fasting with his "5-2 diet", saying he was a "wonderful, funny, kind and brilliant" man.

A police official has said a coroner at the scene has excluded any criminal act but is yet to determine the exact cause of death.

The achievements and service of 737 remarkable Australians have been recognised in the 2024 King's Birthday Honours List.

The next Governor General Samantha Mostyn was appointed a Companion of the Order of Australia for eminent service in several areas, including gender equity, sport and reconciliation.

Former Labor Premiers Daniel Andrews and Mark McGowan, and the late federal Labor leader Simon Crean, also received the top honour.

The list reflects the diversity of Australian society, with many recipients from migrant and minority communities.

Russian migrant Professor Konstantin Yastrebov has received the Member of the Order of Australia for significant service to intensive and critical care medicine and to tertiary education

He told SBS Russian one of his career highlights was accepting a challenge to set up an intensive care unit at a hospital in north-west Tasmania that had no such facility.

"And I thought that was a great challenge so I agreed and there it started."

Lera Shvets: "How long did it take you to build up the intensive care unit?"

Konstantin Yastrebov: "We actually built it pretty quickly. We were functional within six months and we were pioneering things for 12 years in Tasmania. We pioneered about 12 new techniques while I was there."

French President Emmanuel Macron has announced he's dissolving parliament and calling for new elections.

It comes after his centrist alliance party heavily lost to the far-right National Rally in the European elections.

National Rally leader Marine Le Pen has welcomed Mr Macron's decision to call a snap election, saying the party is ready to exercise power.

The parliamentary elections will reportedly be held on the 30th of June and 7th of July.

The centrist member of Israel's war cabinet Benny Gantz has resigned, accusing Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of mismanaging the war effort against Hamas.

Mr Gantz says the Prime Minister has put his own political survival over the country's security needs, and he expects the fighting to continue for years to come.

The Prime Minister had reportedly encouraged Mr Gantz not to leave the emergency wartime government.

But Mr Gantz says the country is being prevented from progressing to victory.

"Unfortunately, (Benjamin) Netanyahu prevents us from progressing to the real victory which is the justification for the painful and ongoing price. That is why we are leaving the wartime cabinet today. With a heavy heart but with a whole heart, we present ourselves today to the battle for the fate of the State of Israel for generations to come."

The move does not immediately pose a threat to Mr Netanyahu, who still controls a majority coalition in parliament.

Nine Entertainment chairman Peter Costello has submitted his resignation to the board members of the group.

Carlos Alcaraz has outlasted Alexander Zverev over five exhausting sets to become French Open men's singles champion.

The 21-year-old proved too strong for the battling Zverev to cope with as he fought back to down the German Olympic champion.

The final, full of drama, lasted over four hours 19 minutes

Speaking after his victory, Alcaraz, who now has three grand slams to his name, thanked the crowd for their support.

"It has been unbelievable, the support that I receive not only in the matches but in the practice as well. I feel like home. You made this tournament so, so special."
