Western Australian Police say a man who shot and killed a mother and her teenage daughter before taking his own life at a property in Perth went there in search of his former partner.

Authorities say the 59-year-old woman who was killed at her house in the suburb of Floreat was close friends with the offender's ex-wife.

Police say this is not being treated as a domestic violence incident since the victims are not related to the shooter.

Western Australian Police Detective David Gorton says an investigation into the killings will reveal who alerted the authorities to the incident.

"We received phone calls from a family member. We're still reviewing those particular calls and how they came to know what was going on at the house but they're still subject of an investigation."

Australians stuck outside of New Caledonia's capital of Noumea say they feel abandoned by the Australian government amid more than a week of deadly civil unrest.

This comes as about 90 Australians and their loved ones returned home on government-assisted flights last night.

Violence sparked in the French overseas territory by contentious proposed electoral reforms has taken the lives of seven people, with a police officer fatally shooting a 48-year-old man on Friday.

Foreign Minister Penny Wong says there are two additional flights to Australia planned for today [[26 May]] for any remaining citizens.

Cairns resident Adrian Hawkins told S-B-S he and his wife are trapped in the small town of La Foa around 110 kilometres north of the capital.

"People are trying to drive Noumea where we know it is not safe. We know there’s a roadblock 30 kilometres down the road where it’s quite intimidating and there have been reports of carjacking and the like. DFAT’s lack of action is forcing people to make bad decisions."

A massive fire in an amusement part in the western Indian state of Gujarat has left at least 24 people dead.

Television images show a fire engulfing the TRP game zone in the city of Rajkot, and thick clouds of smoke emanating from the site.

Excavators were seen removing debris from the site as the rescue operation was underway at the site.

A police official says the fire was under control and a rescue operation underway with 20 bodies now recovered.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Palestinian medics say Israeli forces have killed more than 30 people in new attacks in the Gaza Strip.

The deaths come a day after judges at the International Court of Justice ordered Israel to halt its offensive on the southern Gazan city of Rafah.

A range of measures such as healing workshops, on-country camps and the documentation of Stolen Generations survivors' experiences are set to be boosted by $3.5 million in funding by the federal government.

The federal announcement for National Sorry Day today, is aimed at supporting community-led services through the Healing Foundation across the next two years.

The apology to the Stolen Generations in 2008 acknowledged the trauma and grief suffered by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people as a result of past government policies, particularly the forced removal of children from their families.

Indigenous Australians Minister Linda Burney says the funding boost aimed to continue the decades-long recovery of survivors and their families.

The Central Coast Mariners have seized the A-League Men's trophy with a stunning 3-1 Grand Final win over Melbourne Victory in extra time.

Coming from the brink of defeat at 1-0 down at the 90th minute, the Mariners completed the treble, becoming back-to-back A-League champions in a historic home match.

A surprising strike from Jason Geria put the navy blues in-front in the 49th minute with the defender's third-ever A-League goal.

The game looked all but over until a last-minute equaliser from Ryan Edmondson pushed the match into extra time.

The striker sealed the deal with a third goal, and told Channel 10 that it's a night he won't forget.

"It's absolutely massive for us. I think this whole season we've had a never say die attitude and it's shown in today. We went down a goal and we never stopped believing in anything we did. These lot deserve it more than anything."
