The Australian government has announced new legislation to strengthen the regulation of registered migration agents.

Assistant Minister for Citizenship, Customs and Multicultural Affairs, Julian Hill, says the changes will take effect from 1 April and include an updated approved list of education providers who can deliver courses for registration.

There will also be better professional development requirements for those already registered in a profession.

Mr Hill added that anyone concerned about agent behaviour is encouraged to raise a complaint.

US President Donald Trump is pressuring several nations to send warships to help keep the Strait of Hormuz open.

NATO, Australia, the UK and a number of other countries in Asia have said their not willing to take up Mr Trump's call to send ships to the Strait of Hormuz.

Mr Trump has told reporters at the White House that other countries should be doing more.

"You could say we did it out of habit. Which is not a good thing to do. But we did it because we have some good allies there. We have some great Middle Eastern countries there, Israel there. So we did it for a lot of reasons. But it always amazes me that we did it. We never asked for reimbursement and it was really to serve other countries, not us."

Authorities in Lebanon say the total number of displaced people has reached 1 million.

Israel has warned that displaced Lebanese people driven from their homes by its military would not be able to return until the safety of Israelis living near the border is ensured.

At a school-turned-shelter in Beirut, 33-year-old mother Douaa Mroueh says daily survival is a challenge.

"Of course, I was displaced, my house was damaged. The situation is difficult, of course. I mean, I can't describe to you the feeling that we're experiencing, but it's hard, very hard. It's hard to leave your home, hard to leave your land."

Pakistan denies striking the hospital.

South Koreans are celebrating the Oscars win for 'KPop Demon Hunters', which took home the award for Best Animated Feature.

The fantasy movie is pushed along by a K-pop soundtrack including this year's Best Original Song.

Seoul-born filmmaker behind KPop Demon Hunters, Maggie Kang accepted the award.

''Thank you to the Academy and to all the fans who got us here. And for those of you who look like me, I am so sorry that it took us so long to see us in a movie like this. But it is here. And that means that the next generations don't have to go longing. This is for Korea and for Koreans everywhere.''
