In Taree, volunteers of Melbourne-based charity Sikh Volunteers Australia are helping by providing hot meals for those affected by the floods.

CEO Jaswinder Singh says he's impressed by how generous and selfless Taree residents have been.

"We have seen so many people who are, like, up to their knees in the mud and cleaning, but that was not their own home, they were doing it for their neighbours. So, in times of disaster, I've seen the spirit of Australians coming closer together, and trying to support. And that's a really good thing, that's a positive impact."
