The US has struck multiple targets across Iran, with explosions reported along Iran's Gulf coast, and in western, northern and central areas.
The Iranian armed forces have responded by firing at US bases in neighbouring Arab countries, warning of possible strikes on non-military buildings used by US personnel.
US President Donald Trump earlier vowed 'major military punishment' in response to Tehran and its Houthi allies expanding the conflict to the Red Sea.
It follows the Iran-aligned Houthis' announcement of a naval blockade on Saudi Arabia, which has diverted millions of barrels of oil each day by a pipeline to the Red Sea, skirting Iran's near-total blockade of the Strait of Hormuz.
Taliban militants in Pakistan have rammed an explosive-laden vehicle into a security checkpoint, killing 15 people, including 12 soldiers.
Local Taliban militants, also known as Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan, claimed responsibility for the attack and say four suicide bombers took part.
The attack took place on a post in the Tank district near the Afghan border, where militancy has risen sharply in recent months.
The Taliban have been waging war against Pakistan since 2007 in an attempt to overthrow the government and replace it with their own.
The Palestinian Authority's presidency has condemned violence by Israeli settlers in the occupied West Bank after a clash that left four Palestinians and two Israelis dead.
The attack near the village of Tal, southwest of Nablus, follows what UN figures show is a sharp increase in Israeli settler attacks on Palestinian villages since the beginning of the year.
Local Palestinians in Tal, like Ismail Saifi, say a large group of Israeli settlers attempted to break into two houses and were confronted by residents.
“The settlers cannot be stopped. No one is deterring them. Their brutality and violence are increasing. People are only trying to protect their families and their homes. That is what happened.”
The Israeli military says it received reports of Israeli hikers in an area that is prohibited to Israelis before violence broke out.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy says he expects to meet with US President Donald Trump within the next week.
He says the meeting will likely take place somewhere in the US.
It comes after discussions with US envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner on proposals aimed at reviving peace talks with Russia.
"They will share their ideas with us, we will have a meeting, I think they want to share (their ideas) with us and the Russians. I don't know yet when this meeting will take place, I think that most likely we can have a meeting in the United States of America, with the Americans of course."
Federal Agriculture Minister, Julie Collins, says there's been no sign of mass mortalities of birds or other animals, as a suspected case of the deadly H5 bird flu is detected in a fourth Australian state.
Authorities in Queensland are waiting for results from a CSIRO lab to confirm if a migratory bird found washed up on Moreton Island had the H5 bird flu.
If confirmed, it would be the state's first case.
Julie Collins says the Australian response to bird flu has been both swift and coordinated, after learning from what other countries have gone through.
"What you’ve been seeing here in Australia is our biosecurity system working in that we are getting early detections and at this stage in migratory birds or wild birds. We have had one Australian bird in the tern, but primarily they’ve all been migratory bird. But that tern obviously is still a wild bird that does sort of group with those other birds. And there has been no evidence of any transmission or mass mortalities here in Australia at this point. And I reiterate it is not in our poultry or agricultural systems."
Australian Lani Pallister has won the 400 metre freestyle and opened Australia's medal tally at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games.
Pallister clocked three minutes 59.56 seconds to easily defeat the fastest qualifier, New Zealand's Erika Fairweather.
Fellow Australian Jenna Forrester won the bronze medal.
Pallister is also favourite to win the 800m and 1500m freestyle, and will also contest the 200m freestyle and 4x200m freestyle relay.
