This year’s US presidential race is unconventional in many ways, with the Trump campaign turning many political orthodoxies on its head.

One of those orthodoxies is the importance of TV advertising and fundraising.

So far, Trump’s campaign has survived on relatively meagre funds. Disclosures show his campaign has raised almost $89 million in comparison to the Clinton Campaign’s $264 million.

Outside groups known as ‘Political Action Committees’ which don’t have as many restrictions placed on their fundraising have also failed to raise much in support of Trump.

Pro-Trump PACs have raised just $9.7 million, dwarfed by pro-Clinton PACs which have raised over $110 million.

Meanwhile, the Clinton campaign has spent $52.3 million on  TV ads with pro-Clinton groups spending an additional $37.1 million.
