AFL footballer Riki Stephens lies in a coma after injesting an unknown drug at an end-of-season party. 16 others were also hospitalised.
Some have speculated that the drug was flacca, otherwise known as Alpha PVP, which causes intense feelings of euphoria but can also lead to paranoia and aggression.
As synthetic drugs proliferate, health professionals and law enforcement have an increasingly more difficult job in identifying and treating drugs and their users.
So what can be done?
Dr David Caldicott joins Marc Fennell and Michael Hing to explain what flacca is, and why pill testing is necessary to keep partygoers safe.
