Australian politicians and farmers are pleading with travellers returning from Indonesia to throw away their thongs, in a desperate bid to keep Foot and Mouth Disease out of the country. An outbreak of FMD - that affects livestock - has spread to the popular tourist island, ramping up the risk of it reaching Australia for the first time in over a century. Farmers say it threatens to devastate Australia’s livestock industry.
