Western Sydney to house Costco's giant HQ

American retail giant Costco is set to bring 1000 jobs to western Sydney with plans to build its headquarters and biggest Australian warehouse in the area.

American retail giant Costco has been given the green light to build its $77 million headquarters in western Sydney, generating about 1000 jobs.

The NSW government has approved the warehouse in Kemps Creek, which will be the size of about 20 football fields, making it the company's biggest facility in Australia.

It is expected to employ 1000 people, mostly in construction, and is scheduled for completion within 18 months.

The 14-hectare distribution centre will be a stone's throw from Sydney's second airport at Badgerys Creek, which NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian hopes will become a "fully integrated economic precinct" for residents of the area.

"This new employment hub will also provide people living in western Sydney the chance to work locally so they can spend less time commuting and more time with their families," Ms Berejiklian said on Monday.

Costco managing director Patrick Noone says the location is "ideal" for the headquarters and will bring hundreds of jobs to Sydney's booming west.
