The Australian women's gridiron team have been forced to turn to crowdfunding in order raise money for their trip to Canada for the World Championships.
With players, coaches and support staff forced to pay their own way to the June tournament, footy stars Pier Pritchard and Renee Targett have set up Go Fund Me pages asking the public to help with registration fees, accommodation, merchandise, ground fees, travel and meals.
Targett said the financial burden was due to a lack of awareness of the sport and said there was "little to no" sponsorship on offer.
"I would love to be able to travel to Canada, represent my country, make history in the process, play the game I love and bring home a medal," she said.
"But for me to have the opportunity to do that I require your help."
"It would be my dream to make history and help pave the way in women's sport."
The Australian Outback National Women's Gridiron team will be competing for the very first time in the IFAF championship of American Football in Langley, Canada from June 24-30.
