The world's most gruelling motorsport endurance race is back for another year and SBS will offer Dakar Rally fans a free ticket to all the action as it happens from January 2 to 15.

WATCH extended one-hour highlights from every stage of the 2022 Dakar Rally - January 2-15 (AEDT) - EXCLUSIVE and FREE on SBS and SBS On Demand.

Dakar 2022 will be the third rally set in Saudi Arabia and will span 12 stages, with a rest day in Riyadh marking the halfway mark of the two-week race.

It will be the 44th edition of the famous rally, with 1,065 participants aboard 578 vehicles racing across 8,375 kilometres of the toughest desert terrain in a number of different categories.

The 2022 Dakar Rally is set to be one of the most gruelling in recent history with organisers revealing a return to the daunting deserts of Saudi Arabia and the treacherous 8,375 km route that awaits.

The rally will commence on January 2 with a short 19km Prologue in Jeddah that will help determine the starting order for the next day’s opening stage proper in Ha’il.

From the canyons of the Neom region to the of dunes of Riyadh, SBS and SBS On Demand will be on hand to deliver unique hour-long highlights from each stage.

The SBS Sport website will also offer a range of clips and interviews from events past and present, including special packages from Christophe Mallet.
