Don't let your story remain untold. There is less than one week left to get your entries in to the SBS Emerging Writers' Competition (Entries close Sept 15 at 5pm).
Do you have a story to tell about growing up in diverse Australia? Get your pen to paper, or fingers to laptop and make sure you submit your story to the SBS Emerging Writers’ Competition here.
The competition writing theme is ‘growing up in diverse Australia’, which allows plenty of scope to write a memoir piece about some aspect of your formative years.
So if you are an Australian resident with a story to share, and you’re aged 18 and over (and have never had a book published), hone a story and put yourself in the running. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander writers are strongly encouraged to enter.
Four entries will be selected for prizes by our judges, author and winner of the Miles Franklin Award Melissa Lucashenko and author, playwright and screenwriter Benjamin Law.
SBS Voices Managing Editors Danielle Teutsch and Natalie Hambly said they were thrilled with the breadth and diversity of the entries submitted so far.
"The entries have come from far and wide, and showcase an incredibly rich range of life experiences. The aim of the competition was to unearth new writing talent, and it is certainly doing that."
They urged writers to submit their stories to the SBS Emerging Writers’ Competition to be in the running to win a prize pool of up to $10,000 and kickstart a storytelling career.
"This is a great opportunity for new writers to have their work published and be recognised on a national stage. We are hoping it will be a launch pad for greater opportunities in their creative careers."
The winner will be awarded $5,000 to support the development of their storytelling. There is $3,000 awarded for second place, and $1,000 each for two honourable mentions. Winners and runners up will be notified on November 2 and published on the SBS Voices website.
Entries close Tuesday, 15 September 2020, 6pm.
