The winner has been announced at the Grand Final of the Eurovision Song Contest in Lisbon, Portugal.

And the winner is... Israel!

The early favourite Netta has clucked to victory, with her high energy empowerment anthem, 'Toy'.

In an extraordinary result, Netta narrowly fended off closest rival Cyprus, whose Eleni Foureira was a late bolter for her fiery rendition of 'Fuego'.

"I'm so happy! Thank you so much for accepting differences between us, thank you for celebrating diversity," cried the winner.

The event featured a dramatic stage intrusion during the United Kingdom's performance, when a man rushed the stage and made a grab for the microphone during SuRie's performance of 'Storm'. The man was arrested and SuRie declined the offer to return to the stage for a second performance.
Last year's winner Salvador Sobral handed the trophy to Netta with little interaction. Sobral, who performed on stage during the event with Brazillian legend Caetano Veloso, had earlier criticised the Israeli singer's performance.
Australia's Jessica Mauboy was a big hit with the crowd in Altise Arena with her rendition of 'We Got Love', but was unable to translate the love into the popular vote.
