The artists of Eurovision 2017: Alma – “Requiem” (France)

For the French, it's a case of if it ain’t broke don’t fix it.

After last year’s fabulous sixth placing by the likeable Amir, broadcasters France 2 and France 4 have hit repeat on the selection formula and sourced a likeable emerging artist to send to the contest. The lovely Alma could be best described as a global citizen - the 28 year-old has already resided on three different continents before finally settling in her country of birth France to work on her music.

There’s much excitement around the breezy Alma and her entry, “Requiem”, penned by Nazim Khaled, who was responsible for Amir’s “J’ai Cherché” last year. A fusion of French and English lyrics laden with strings, piano and guitar, “Requiem” is pure French pop with a decent dose of dramatic flair. With Alma being mentored by Amir, the likelihood of a second top 10 finish in a row for the French could be on the cards.

Grand final performance
