The tiny Baltic nation of Estonia will be sending potentially the best duet of the competition performed by a pair of former Eurovision contestants, Koit Toome and Laura. Having represented their home nation in 1998 and 2005 respectively, the combination is being described as a power duo.
Their entry, “Verona”, is a brilliant piece of '80s-tinged melodrama accompanied by a pastiche of longing looks that puts The Bold and the Beautiful to shame. Composer Sven Lôhmus, responsible for some of Estonia’s best placing entries at the contest in recent years, has penned a perfectly pitched modern spin on the Romeo and Juliet story.
Koit & Laura’s interpretation of “Verona” resonated with the Estonian general public and secured over 50 percent of the public vote in the super final of Eesti Laul, Estonia’s national selection competition. This glamorous Estonian duo won’t be lost for long as they work their way through the streets of Verona directly into the grand final.
