A 43-year-old man has been charged with murder after his wife died of multiple stab wounds in Melbourne on early Saturday morning.
Douglas Derick Eustace allegedly stabbed 41-year-old Mary Freeman at her Hallam home in Melbourne’s southeast. The police were called at around 12:40 am on Saturday and paramedics tried to revive the woman but she died at the scene, the Herald Sun reported.
Eustace initially left the scene but later handed himself to the police.
He was charged with one count of murder and taken to the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court but the matter was quickly adjourned.
He has been remanded to return to court on Wednesday.
7 News reported that the woman met Eustace in October last year when he was on a holiday from India and the pair married two weeks later.
Neighbours said the woman had hosted a party on Friday night and they heard her screaming.
“She’s a social person, she was very loud. She lived there on her own but people always come around on the weekend,” a neighbour told the Sunday Herald Sun. “I heard a high pitched screech, she was screaming in pain.
“There was music on and there were guys there when there was screaming. There were men yelling at her as well,” she said.
