Introducing Grave Matters

From death doulas to death cafes, bespoke family-led funerals, and climate-friendly cremation, there's a lot of disruption happening in the business of dying. But most of us are woefully unprepared to face one of life’s few certainties. Grave Matters is an SBS podcast about grief, death care and the people helping us better understand what happens at the end of the road.

Most of us would rather die than think or talk about death, but experts in the death-care industry say it's important to develop death literacy, meaning the knowledge and skills that make it possible to access and understand end-of-life options.

So what does a death doula actually do? What is family-led death care? And what is the best way to help people who are grieving?

Without sounding too dramatic, I much prefer dealing with the dead than the living.
Funeral Director, Consultant and Educator Mariam Ardati

Grave Matters is an SBS Audio podcast hosted by Anthony Levin and Nadine J. Cohen, speaking to people whose life's work is helping us to better understand death.

Over the ten-episode series, you'll hear from a First Nations grief counsellor, a Muslim death doula, a trauma therapist, climate researcher, forensic scientist, death-tech innovator and more.

Rather than getting morbid, Grave Matters keeps spirits light while exploring the deep meaning which can be found in talking about dying.

Find Grave Matters in your podcast app such as the SBS Audio app, Apple Podcasts, Spotify, or LiSTNR.

The first episode is out on March 6.
