SBS celebrating 50 Years. This is a Year in a Minute 2020.


Early in 2020, the Covid-19 pandemic reshaped lives around the globe as countries put in place social distancing, border closures and curfews to attempt to limit infections.

Economies felt the strain, with many businesses switching to digital technology to adapt.

COVID saw the Tokyo Olympics postponed and by August the first vaccines were released.

At the end of the year, there had been over 18 million COVID cases resulting in more than 1 million 700 thousand deaths.

In other news, Iran accidentally shot down a passenger jet, killing all 176 on board.

Mining corporation Rio Tinto blew up the ancient Juukan Gorge caves in Western Australia’s Pilbara.

Britain’s Prince Harry announced he was stepping down as a senior royal.

And Joe Biden defeated Donald Trump in the US Presidential Election.
