Almost too good-looking to eat

Our tummies are growling, our eyes are widening, and our cutlery-clutching fingers are ready to pounce; but there's something holding us back from inhaling our entrées and devouring dessert. It's the beauty – edible, unadulterated, oh-no-you-didn't beauty – of a well-risen soufflé, a daintily-folded empanada or a bowl o' saucy spaghetti. Here's to the sweet and savoury dishes we can't take our eyes off.

1. "Everything you see, I owe to spaghetti."

We christen this dish from the food dept. “The Sophia Loren of Spaghetti”. Luscious locks of pasta are tossed with pork sausage, passata, red wine and olives. Make like the noodle-loving starlet and cook a plate today.

2. Excuse me, is this seat taken?

Pull up a stool and serve yourself a slab of Anneka Manning’s vanilla slice. This bakery staple is surprisingly simple to make and boy, is the custard filling lush!

3. Could you be any cuter?

Repulgue might sound like an ugly word – kinda repulsive, actually – but it means “braided edge” in Spanish. Check out the rad repulgue on these ridiculously adorable empanadas. Fill ‘em with meat and crimp your little heart out. Via Argentinian Street Food

4. Okay, now you’re just bragging

According to our Seasonal Cook, buttermilk is easy to make at home. Creamy, with a slight tang, it’s perfect for gently poaching fish, like snapper with spring herbs. The results are stunning, too.

5. Let’s spoon

If dark chocolate soufflé with a soft, velvety centre doesn’t get your pulse racing, we don’t know what will. Perhaps a lashing of Earl Grey cream? Via Artful Desparado

6. We see you workin’ that plate

This supple scallop mousse from Gabriel Gaté makes us feel all prawn-y inside. Serve at a special occasion or a Bastille Day bash.

7. Better looking than the ballerina

Named after the famous ballet dancer and her flouncy skirt, the pavlova is delicate, delicious and adorned with seasonal fruit. Here, the much-loved meringue soars to new heights with the addition of watermelon and strawberries coated in moscato syrup and zesty lime juice. Nice one, Feast.

8. Love at first bite

Who needs store-bought candy, when you can whip up cherry ripe bites at home? Featuring just five ingredients, the chocolate-y treats contain no added sugar, just fresh fruit. Via Wholesome Cook

9. This salad leaves us speechless

For some, making salad is a chore. For others, an act of meditation. For O Tama Carey, it’s an art form. Have a go at recreating her lemon, mushroom, fennel and radicchio salad with parmesan.
