Crazy ways to milk the most out of life

We're taking a YOLO approach to eating this week, gorging on meaty ice-cream, nearly naked cake and the latest craze to hijack our Insta feeds, syringe-injected sweets.

If your head isn’t buried under a pile of wi-fi-wanting sand, chances are you've encountered images of ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS MILKSHAKES in recent weeks. Yes, the combo of pretzels, whipped cream and chocolate is kind of excessive, but sometimes you simply gotta cut loose, and we cannot think of a more Insta-appropriate way. (Snap from Pâtissez The Shake & Cake Lords Shop 2/21 "The Lawns" Bougainville St. Manuka, Canberra)
When ACME’s Mitch Orr was experimenting with ice-cream flavours, do you think he felt restrained by culinary rules? Heck no! The guy mixes Maltesers and meat! Bolster your own bravado with this candied bacon creation and for frozen dessert’s sake, start breaking the rules!

Christina Tosi of Milk Bar fame has taken her Crack pie® up a notch by giving the salty-sweet crust a decidedly brittle feel. Crackle is like a choose-your-own-adventure novel, 'cause you can include pretty much any ingredient sitting in your pantry. Pretzels? Sure! Potato chips? Definitely! Corn Flakes? Little left of centre, but hey, why not! (Read our review of Tosi's latest tome Milk Bar Life here.)

Stuff your sweet nothings and sex things up with tongue-numbing titillation. We’re talking about Coolhaus’s dangerously lickable dirty mint chip ice-cream sandwiched between double-choc cookies. It’s gonna get messy and you’re gonna like it.

Conservatism is so last century. Turn the heat up and start baking naked… orange poppy seed cake. Anneka Manning’s creation sports a see-through vibe (thanks to the buttercream frosting), plus a naughty drizzling of orange syrup with candied rind.

Heston Blumenthal’s done it. So has Marco Pierre White. And Spice Journey star Shane Delia? Well, he’s pretty much an addict. We’re not talking illegal substances (although it is pretty dope), but rather syringe-injected doughnuts. Melbourne’s Ascot Food Store let's you shoot up your doughies with lemon curd or suspicious-looking berry coulis. And boy, is it a trip!
