Every week, SBS challenges one food lover/writer/expert to trial the five newest recipes uploaded to SBS Food. Whether it's a Sri Lankan vegetable dish, African flower drink, or a cake made especially for Jewish holiday Hannukah, our recipe reviewer will recreate the dish at home and report back on what they thought.
This week's challenger is Susie Q, a food writer from Western Australia. She has co-authored two recipe books focused on Malaysian cuisine and has another project in the works.

SBS recipe: Fennel fritters
Susie's verdict: "I loved this dish as I've long been a fan of pho, but I'd never before attempted to make it at home. The recipe, provided by Phil Lees, is easy to follow and, using a pressure cooker, reduces the cooking time significantly. It made more than enough to feed my family of six. I added a good amount of bean sprouts on top and a few extra wedges of lemon as this is my preferred way of eating pho."
Overall score? 6/10

SBS recipe: Sweet bread (pooran poli)
Susie's verdict: "I loved this dish as I've long been a fan of pho, but I'd never before attempted to make it at home. The recipe, provided by Phil Lees, is easy to follow and, using a pressure cooker, reduces the cooking time significantly. The chicken was succulent and retained the stock's flavour nicely. I added a good amount of bean sprouts on top and a few extra wedges of lemon as this is my preferred way of eating pho."
Overall score? 10/10

SBS recipe: Yusheng
Susie's verdict: "I loved this dish as I've long been a fan of pho, but I'd never before attempted to make it at home. It made more than enough to feed my family of six and I've already has requests to make it again. The chicken was succulent and retained the stock's flavour nicely. I added a good amount of bean sprouts on top and a few extra wedges of lemon as this is my preferred way of eating pho."
Overall score? 8/10.
