There's a new berry in town and it's the berry of all your wildest foodie dreams. The 'reverse strawberry' is the opposite of everything you expect from your regular, mainstream strawberries, with its white flesh and red seeds.
Called a pineberry, the European version of South America's white strawberries are being imported to Australia for the first time by United Nurseries.
The berry's arrival in Australia has been four years in the making due to Australia's strict quarantine and biosecurity requirements.
Phillip Neilsen from United Nurseries assured The ABC that "they are still a strawberry, [but] you have a very subtle taste at the beginning of citrus or pineapple, and it finishes off with the classic strawberry flavour."
So what can you do with a topsy-turvy strawberry that tastes like pineapple? We have a few suggestions.
1. Up your cheese board game.
Why use regular strawberries when you can impress your friends with a wild new berry they've probably never even heard of before. Imagine the hip new strawberry on this seriously impressive platter by tapasaddict.
2. Jazz up your Hawaiian pizza.
