সিকদার তাহের আহমদ: সিডনির ফেয়ারফিল্ডে গত ২২ মার্চ ২০২৬, রবিবার অনুষ্ঠিত হয়ে গেল মাল্টিকালচারাল ঈদ ফেস্টিভাল অ্যান্ড ফেয়ার (MEFF)। পবিত্র ঈদ-উল-ফিতরের পর অনুষ্ঠিত এই উৎসবে মেতে ওঠেন বিভিন্ন জাতি-গোষ্ঠীর মুসলমান নারী-পুরুষ ও শিশুরা। এই মেলায় অন্যান্যদের পাশাপাশি কথা হয় ‘বন্ডাই হিরো’ রহমতা পাশার সঙ্গেও। এ নিয়ে একটি প্রতিবেদন।
সিডনির Fairfield Showground-এ গত বাইশে মার্চ, দুই হাজার ছাব্বিশ রবিবার সকাল দশটা থেকে রাত নয়টা পর্যন্ত অনুষ্ঠিত হয় Multicultural Eid Festival and Fair বা MEF। বার্ষিক এই ঈদ মেলাটি প্রতি বছর ঈদুল ফিতরের পরবর্তী রবিবার অনুষ্ঠিত হয়ে থাকে। বরাবরের মতো এবারও ছিল নানা আয়োজন। ভারতীয়, পাকিস্তানি, লেবানিজ, মালয়েশিয়ান, নেপালি, তুর্কি সহ মেক্সিকান খাবারের স্টলও চোখে পড়েছে। বিভিন্ন ধরনের পসরা সাজিয়ে বসেছিল স্টলগুলো। তৈরি পোশাক, গহনা, বইপুস্তক, খেলনা ইত্যাদি তো ছিলই, আরও ছিল বিভিন্ন দাতব্য প্রতিষ্ঠানের স্টল এবং হ্যান্ড পেইন্টিং সহ প্রসাধন সামগ্রীর স্টল। আর Camel Riding, Tram Riding, Rock Climbing, Jumping Castle সহ বিভিন্ন ride ও খেলায় মেতে ওঠে শিশুরা। কিছু কিছু ride-এ তাদের সঙ্গে যোগ দেন সাথে আসা বড়রাও। এ নিয়ে লেবানিজ Mr. Ahmed-এর সঙ্গে কথা হয়। Your name please?

Oh, yeah, yeah. Good time to stock up on a few things. Yeah, yeah. And my daughter loved the camel riding, so it's good.
সিকদার তাহের আহমদ: এবারই প্রথম এই ফেস্টিভ্যালে এসেছেন মিজানুর রহমান সুমন সপরিবারে। তিনি বলেন:
হ্যাঁ, আমার মনে হয় এই Fairfield Showground-এ এটাই আমি প্রথম। বা এদের আয়োজন আমি আগে খেয়াল করিনি। আমি ঢুকলাম, আমার যে বাচ্চাদের জন্য ওই যে கேমেলে ride করানোর জন্য আমি ticket collection করেছি। কয়েকটা, এ, sponsor-এর কাছে কাছে গিয়েছি। আমার এটা হয়ে গেছে। আর আমি দেখলাম যে আয়োজন বেশ ভালো, বেশ বড়। আর জায়গাটা খুব সুন্দর। এখানে যারা এখানে আসবে তাদের জন্য যথেষ্ট parking আছে। তারপরে আপনার toilet ব্যবস্থা আছে। তারপরে বাচ্চাদের ভালো খাবার-দাবারের ব্যবস্থা আছে। আর সবথেকে বেশি সুবিধা হচ্ছে যে, অনেক, অনেক স্টল আছে যারা অনেক কিছু ছোট ছোট জিনিস ফ্রি দেয়। বাচ্চারা অনেক পছন্দ করে বিষয়টা।
সিকদার তাহের আহমদ: নামাজের ব্যবস্থাও আছে।
হ্যাঁ, নামাজের ব্যবস্থাও আছে। আর কয়েকটা ride আছে। train-এর ব্যবস্থা আছে। train-ের ride আর কি বাচ্চাদের জন্য। এই সবকিছু মিলিয়ে বাচ্চারা অনেক খুশি হয় এখানে আসলে। আমার কাছে মনে হলো তাই।

সিকদার তাহের আহমদ: SBS স্টলে ছিল চোখে পড়ার মতো আনাগোনা। এখানে বিনামূল্যে ছবি তোলার ও সেটির print out ও soft copy নেওয়ার ব্যবস্থা ছিল। আর এই মেলায় ছিল নামাজের ব্যবস্থা। [নামাযের আজান] MEF-এর একজন অন্যতম আয়োজক সুজাত সিদ্দিকী বলেন:
My name is Shujat Siddiqui and I'm one of the organizer of the, uh, this Salat area. And, uh, it's been, uh, happening from last forty one years. And I've been doing this, uh, arranging this Salat, Namaz area. And also I'm, uh, part of the advertising and, you know, it's, uh, things with other people. And we just doing, um, yeah, so we're just, uh, also advertising and, and doing other works as well. So-- But mainly my objective at this moment is to organize Salat and make-- and we have collective Namaz together in here.
সিকদার তাহের আহমদ: তিনি বলেন, বিভিন্ন ethnic group এতে অংশ নিচ্ছে।
We have really come from different ethnic groups. And as far as I know, there's a fifty four ethnic groups are here, nearly coming from different countries. Very, very multicultural, very multicultural and very, very separately. Everything is very nice. And, uh, yeah, and then do it. And this is basically for family get together. This is the one we, we, we like. We, we, we ourselves have, uh, so many, uh, culture. All culture come together. Whether you're Aussie or non-Aussie or things, or you're migrants, and this is the place all in Ummah all come together and enjoy yourself here. And we can enjoy as well. You know, just in here, the nice foods are here, nice playground, nice martial arts. There are a lot of things in here to enjoy.
সিকদার তাহের আহমদ: সুজাত সিদ্দিকী আরও বলেন, এটি শুধু মুসলমানদের জন্য নয়, এতে অমুসলিমরাও অংশগ্রহণ করেন।
We have non-Muslim, we have a Christian, even we have some Jewish people come here as well to attend. You know, as a, you know, it's, it's, it's for everyone. It's not for, uh, only for Muslim. Obviously majority Muslim comes here, which is our Eid festival, but it's open to everyone. And we have, we have a lot of Christian friends. As a matter of fact, we have, uh, one of the Christian, um,
uh, politician, and he bring-- he brought his, uh, family here. It's just, it's a nice kebab, [laughs] nice things, you know. Every nice kebab, all different types of food. Malaysian, Indonesian, Pakistani, uh, Arabic one, Lebanese, you know, Turkish food, ice creams. You can see. You can see the how changing the world here, you know. Alhamdulillah.

I'm from Pakistan. I work with the Australian Relief Organization and as a volunteer. So I do calligraphy for all the events and just to raise money for, you know, good cause. So I offer my services as a calligrapher with them. That's it.

Yeah, my name is Rahmat Pasha. I'm one of the heroes from Bondi. I was there on that day and I was picking up the passenger and suddenly when the shooting had started, I just jumped in and
I helped a lot of people there. I was there for four to five hours. I helped policemen who has been shot and the other victims who has been wounded and they were screaming and crying for with pain and all. So I was the one in, I was the first responder to the victims.
That's it. You know, like
I have seen a lot there like people's pain, screamings, dead bodies, bullets, everything. I have seen the green grass turning into red on that day.
সিকদার তাহের আহমদ: Are you a Muslim?
And you were there for to attend the event or you were with the family?
No, I was just driving my Uber. At the weekends I do my Uber. So I was picking up the passenger there. So,
you know, I was picking up the passenger and he put a, put his bags in my car and he ran off. I was initially thought, what's going on? Why is running? So I just get out from the car and when I see it's all started, the firing started and I was just five hundred or six hundred meters away. So I just jumped in and helped people. I was there for four to five hours helping the paramedics, police and everyone.
So police inquired about everything to you or?
Yeah, Channel 10 has interviewed me and local news, what's that? One Path Network has also been interviewed me and I have given my statement too.
How do you feel after that attack? Do you need any mental help?
it's going on. I'm with my psychiatrist and psychologist. My counseling is going on still, but still I'm traumatized with the situation, you know.
What do you say about this event, about the security and happening in the world?
Well, the only thing what I want to tell is like we all are human. It doesn't matter where you come from, what religion, what caste and what breed. The only thing what matters is the humanity first. Nothing comes beyond that. So let's make this world beautiful.

সিকদার তাহের আহমদ: এই মেলার অন্যতম আয়োজক সুজাত সিদ্দিকী বলেন, ১৯৮৬ সাল থেকে এটি অনুষ্ঠিত হচ্ছে।
All right, this is very oldest festival. This started in 1986 by my uncle who think there is no Eid Mela here. So we done the Eid Mela kind of get together. So we started, we are the first one who started it and it's gone, you know, slowly, slowly build up, build up. So we are in fortieth, forty first year now. So we were very young and do it. Now my children has done or now my children doing this job. A lot of voluntary job, unpaid voluntary job. Our family is doing unpaid voluntary job here. Alhamdulillah, a lot of other people doing it as well. And we have got big community coming here, whether Hindu, Muslim, obviously Christian, Jews even coming here. And they, you know, they, they very feel very at home because, you know, it's, it's enjoyment. That's what it is basically.
সিকদার তাহের আহমদ: বাংলাদেশ প্রসঙ্গে সুজাত সিদ্দিকী আগ্রহ প্রকাশ করলে জানা যায়, তিনি কোনোভাবে বাংলাদেশের সঙ্গে সম্পর্কিত। You just told me that you were born in Dhaka. So you have a good connection with Bangladesh.
I, I don't have good connection, but my godmother was Bengali and she done pala posa to me, you know, and I remember we couldn't bring her here because she was no blood relation. She obviously passed away. We took her everything to Pakistan. She, she passed away in Pakistan, but we done care for her. She got married there and everything. But something I feel very kind of
udas, very sorrow that I couldn't bring her here because she was like mother to me, you know. So, but I've got a lot of connection with, with Dhaka. I don't have anyone there, but my, my, my brother, sister, they speak very good fluently Bangla.
But I, I, I wanted to go to Bangladesh one day, Inshallah.
