A new study from Australia and California shows that whale songs are more than just impressive natural phenomena — they directly reflect the state of marine ecosystems. For six years, researchers used sound recordings, photo identification and AI-based data evaluation to study the songs of humpback, blue and fin whales in the East Pacific. The result: In times of abundant food, whales sing more frequently — when scarce, they fall silent.
