As part of the “Chemistry of the Atmosphere Field Experiments” program, a research team from the Max Planck Institute in northern Australia is using a special aircraft called “HALO” to measure values in the tropical atmosphere. It is the third and final mission of the CAFE project. In an interview, research directors Hartwig Harder and Mira Pöhlker reveal exactly what they are researching, what makes the aircraft nose so unique worldwide and why Cairns is an ideal location.
